A (yawn) visit to the Sydney Produce Market-2005

The bottom box on a pallet is opened, and reaching down inside the box another sample is chosen. Asparagus is snapped, an orange is cut open. The testing is as much for checking consistency as eliminating second rate produce. The standards are high and Bob explained why he was rejecting each batch.

These oranges are for eating. Harris Farms started to offer fresh orange juice some years ago, and David said, shaking his head, "I've no idea why it wasn't popular". Believing in the concept, they tried again a few years back, and this time, we, the customers were ready. They now use 30 tonnes of oranges a week for their fresh juice squeezed in each store. The requirements for health and staff training paid off allowing them to offer other products such as the famous Harris Farm yoghurt, now a multi-million dollar line.
