The Currant
Shed, Fleurieu
One of the stories that didn't fit in the Fleurieu Peninsula
region covered in Issue 3 was the annual Fleurieu Culinary
Competition. We've been there for the last couple but will
miss this years event, part of the
Fiesta! celebrations. I was reminded of the story by
Tony Love's review of The Currant Shed in the
Adelaide Advertiser.
Alice Lethbridge (that's her holding
limes from the Hoffman
orchard) entered the desert section
of the competition and although she didn't win, I thought
her lime tart was terrific, so we went to visit her. We were
greeted by the lovely Anthea Hoffman (at left)who insisted
we try at least some of the
Hoffman wines and told us of the (real) currant shed
history. Alice is now working with chef Kerryn Oates and you
get the feeling that there's warmth and harmony here with
owners Peter and Anthea. They're nice people and the food's
great. Try the big tasting plates for a
sample of it. And the lime tarts.
