Is that a Fairy Godmother at the bottom of the
pumpkin patch?
If you've been following along with Regional Food's regional
interests you might remember our involvement with the
Collector Pumpkin Festival (there's a story
here on the old site and we featured
the Region in Issue 2). The Festival didn't run last
year, there were no big pumpkins grown because of the
drought, and the organisers had burn out.
But it's back, and on Sunday May 4,
there will be thousands of people descending on the small
village of Collector (it's just off the Federal Highway
between Canberra and Goulburn) in NSW. I promised myself by
then I'd have the video edited that I made of the event in
2006, which was almost blown away in freezing gusty rain.
The Festival is at the
same time as we're trying to get Issue 4 out, but maybe I can
squeeze in a day or so.
It's a terrific country food event, preceded by a country 'ball'
that also always has great food. All the girls dress up
in their best dresses and some of the
boys do too.
The
Pumpkin
Festival website has all the details , a map and
booking information for stall holders. But hurry, there's
only a few stall places left.
We'll be there. FH

YouTube video shows Radio 666 ABC Canberra's Genevieve Jacobs launching the 2008
Pumpkin Festival at The Bushranger pub in Collector. Then we
all ate
pumpkin scones and talked about Flo
Bjelke-Petersen.
