Our Magnificent Seven

Walking down the main street of Braidwood are an organic
orchardist, the wine maker, the master gardeners, the butcher, the chef, the
smoked smallgoods producer and the brewer. Seven enterprises we think represent
the region. |

"Complex
well made red, with superb depth of colour, pronounced fruit characters...
Orchardist Owen Pidgeon says of the apple on our cover - “The Sundowner apple is a cross between the Golden Delicious and Lady Williams
varieties produced in the W.A. Department of Agriculture Breeding Program in
1979. The fruit is medium size, has good colour and flavour. The flesh is white,
crisp, juicy and sweet. It is a very good keeper with a long shelf life.”

INTRODUCTION
Take the back roads to history
These
towns were here 100 years BC - that's Before Canberra. While they wouldn't be
the same without the nearby city, they're not just dormitory suburbs. There's a
thriving good-food culture. And of course there is the wine.
